A Lesson on Focus

This is an exerpt from my client-support resources.
It deals with the importance of Focus in pursuing your goals.

Read and enjoy!

The hunter in pursuit of an elephant does not stop to throw stones at birds.

-Ugandan Proverb

Ridiculous as this may seem, many of us stop to "throw stones at birds", forgetting the elephant we are hunting.

We may only remember our mission as the sun begins to set.

Then we make frantic efforts to find our game, all the while blaming the birds for distracting us!

We must always keep our eyes on our goals, the elephants.

Reviewing them, and our action plan daily, will help maintain focus.

Identifying possible distractions at the planning stage will help us avoid them, or deal with them if they are inevitable.

However, if you do get distracted, don't blame it on the "birds!"

Questions/ Action Points:

1) What are your goals for today? Keep a written copy on hand.

2) List possible "birds" and ways to avoid them.

3) Clearly define your "elephants" and the steps for "catching" them.

4) These steps are your action plan.
Ignore the birds. If possible, get a friend to support you as you work your plan towards your goals. He/she might recognize the "birds" before you do, and sound the warning bell.

Affirmation:

I will stay focused on my goals. I will take a step everyday on my plan. I will not be distracted from pursuing my dreams.

After a good read on blogs like this I like to leave little tips on goal setting. You know, the things you used to dream of when you were young, or even now.

A lot of research has shown that only those who set goals are likely to achieve their dreams.

When is the last time you really sat down and wrote a few short term and long term goals down?

What? It's been that long!

A new year is coming. You could do the same things you did this year and achieve the same results you did with your life dreams last year, or you could visit reaching goals and read all the FREE information on setting goals and getting what you want out of life

OR

you could just piddle on through life hoping for the best, like most people do.

Which will it be?

You really can have a lot more of everything than you do now. All you gotta do is know what you want and have a plan.

Have a GREAT New Year!
